You’ve sent your letters, tracked your certified mail, and perhaps even followed up with a "Method of Verification" request. Now comes the hardest part of credit repair: The Wait. By law, the bureaus have 30 to 45 days to investigate your claims. What you do during these few weeks can either amplify your results or cancel them out. At Sole Savers Auto Sales, we want to make sure you finish the month strong. Here is your "Waiting Game" survival guide.
1. Avoid "Hard Inquiries"
While you are waiting for your score to jump, avoid applying for new credit cards, personal loans, or furniture financing. Each "Hard Pull" can shave a few points off your score.
- The Goal: You want the bureaus to see a stable, improving profile, not a "desperate" one.
2. Don’t Close Old Accounts
It’s tempting to close an old credit card once you pay it off, but don't do it yet. Closing an account reduces your total available credit and can shorten your "Age of Credit History."
- The Rule: Keep the account open, hide the card in a drawer, and let that history work for you.
3. Micromanage Your Due Dates
A single 30-day late payment during the dispute process can drop a score by 60–100 points, instantly erasing all the hard work you did in Weeks 5 through 7.
- The Pro Move: Set every single bill to "Auto-Pay" for the minimum amount this month. It’s your safety net.
4. Watch for the "Updated Report"
You will receive a letter in the mail (or an email) from the bureaus once the investigation is complete. It will list items as Deleted, Corrected, or Verified. * If Deleted: Celebrate! Your score should update within a few days.
- If Verified: Refer back to our Week 7 tactics for your next move.
